  • Round ligament pain

  • Pubic symphysis pain

  • Rib pain or breathing difficulty

  • Neck and shoulder tension

  • Core weakness or abdominal separation

  • Difficulty exercising during pregnancy

Our goal is to help you feel strong, supported, and prepared as your body changes.

Birth Prep

Preparing your body for birth can make a meaningful difference in how you feel during labor, delivery, and recovery.

Our birth preparation sessions combine physical therapy, movement training, and guided Pilates to help you feel strong, mobile, and confident going into delivery.

What is Birth Preparation Physical Therapy?

Birth preparation physical therapy focuses on helping your body move well, relax well, and push effectively during labor. As your body changes during pregnancy, muscles, joints, and the pelvic floor must work together differently. When these systems are not well coordinated, it can contribute to pain in
pregnancy, longer labor, increased tearing, or more difficult recovery.

Treatment may include:

  • Pelvic floor coordination and relaxation training

  • Pushing mechanics and positioning practice

  • Hip and pelvic mobility work

  • Core and glute strengthening

  • Breathing strategies for labor

  • Manual therapy for pelvic, back, or rib pain

  • Preparation for postpartum recovery

Sessions are always one-on-one and individualized to your pregnancy, symptoms, and birth goals

When should I start birth prep?

Birth preparation can begin at any time during pregnancy, but most patients start between 20–34 weeks.

  • You may benefit from birth preparation if you:

  • Have back, hip, or pelvic pain

  • Feel tight or stiff in your hips or pelvic floor

  • Want to avoid tearing if possible

  • Want to prepare for vaginal delivery

  • Want to feel more confident going into labor

  • Had a difficult first birth

  • Are planning VBAC

  • Want guidance on pushing and positioning

  • Want to stay active safely during pregnancy

It is never too early or too late to start.

Why birth prep with a physical therapist?

Birth preparation with a pelvic health physical therapist is different from a traditional fitness class. Sessions are guided by a Doctor of Physical Therapy trained in pregnancy, pelvic floor function, and movement mechanics.

This allows us to safely address pain, improve mobility, train the pelvic floor correctly, and prepare your body for both delivery and recovery. Our goal is for you to go into birth feeling strong, supported, and confident in your body.
