Women’s Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

Women’s Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy that focuses on the muscles, joints, and connective tissues of the pelvis. These muscles play an important role in bladder and bowel control, core stability, sexual health, pregnancy, and postpartum recovery. When the pelvic floor is not functioning properly, it can lead to pain, weakness, pressure, or difficulty with everyday activities.

Pelvic floor therapy is designed to help women restore strength, coordination, and mobility so they can move, exercise, and live comfortably again.

What is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that sit at the bottom of your pelvis like a supportive sling. These muscles work together with your core, hips, and diaphragm to support your organs and control bladder, bowel, and sexual function.

Pelvic floor problems can occur due to:

  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Hormonal changes
  • Injury or surgery
  • Heavy lifting or high-impact exercise
  • Chronic tension or stress
  • Postural and core weakness
  • Aging

These issues are very common, but they are not something you have to live with.
